“Navy is the new black!” -Kris

For this week’s individual style feature, Kris is back with another suit from his collection. This time, we are talking about the navy suit! Described as one of the most important items in a man’s wardrobe, the navy suit can be tailored to fit your body. According to Kris, “The navy suit is self explanatory. The trick here is to buy a suit that fits just right or visit your local tailor to customize your suit to fit you perfectly. It’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it.”

For a slight contrast, Kris chose to pair his slim, fitted suit with a dark brown, double monk strap shoe. “As mentioned in a previous look, I would consider these shoes a two-in-one man necessity. The dapper man should ALWAYS own a dark brown dress shoe and a double monk strap.”

To finish off this look, Kris accessorized his suit with a paisley colored pocket square. Not only is the pocket square unique in color, it was handmade by Kris himself. “The pocket square that I created was hand sewn out of vintage fabrics.  I only made one of these squares as a sample which was a huge mistake! Everywhere that I wear this pink, paisley, silk pocket square, people offer to buy it right out of my blazer chest pocket! This gives the “wow” effect that any accessory should have, especially when it matches perfectly with your shirt.”

Remember, when adding accessories, don’t be afraid to add something with a little flare!

With the help of my good friend Seonne, we put together two, retro inspired looks. In case you didn’t understand my love for everything old school, know that I spent a lot of time conceptualizing these 60s inspired outfits.

Take, for instance, this graphic tee from What’s Up African? Apparel. Not only does this “Unify or Die” shirt pay homage to the new generation of liberation fighters, it challenges the many years of systematic racism and social inequalities through two powerful words.

Sounds deep, right?

Since the shirt already has a powerful message, we decided to tone it down with other black pieces. For myself, I went with a black moto jacket, skinny jeans, and a pair of classic Chuck Taylors.

Now, I can’t speak for Seonne, but I’m loving both of these looks. We definitely put a modern twist on this militant inspired style.

“This look was is my favorite. I love dressing up and adding a bit of edge to it.” -Carrera

For this post, we have another individual style feature with singer/fashion blogger, Carrera.

When your boss says the company dress code is “business sophisticated,” think Olivia Pope meets Michelle Obama. A colorful, knee high, form fitted dress is the perfect option, especially if you have another event to attend after work.

Our girl Carrera went with a lavender dress from ASOS, H&M leather jacket, and a pair of Christian Louboutin heels. Did we say Louboutin? Yes, we certainly did!

Continuing with her outfit, this look is perfect for a day at the office, morning church service, or a coffee date with friends. Carrera agrees, and had this to say, “This look is perfect because it’s versatile. It could be worn anywhere. You can wear it to church, work, out to dinner, wherever!”

Casual: Winter Favorites

post_collin1_110615_01post_collin1_110615_02post_collin1_110615_03post_collin1_110615_04post_collin1_110615_05Flannel: Ralph Lauren | Jacket: Ralph Lauren |
Jeans: Zara | Boots: Ralph Lauren

For this post, we had a chance to catch up with Collin on UPenn’s campus. As an alumnus, he had no problem showing off some of his winter favorites with the current student body.

Collin put together a very simple look by combining one of his flannel button-downs with a simple white tee and khaki jacket. We love how the multi-colored print from the shirt brought a pop of color to the outfit!

Continuing with this casual theme, Collin threw on his distressed jeans with a pair of leather boots.

Overall, this is a great fit for Collin.
