STYLE SPOTLIGHT: SIERRA

“Welcome to “Style Spotlight,” a series dedicated to our most inspiring, fashion influencers.”

Meet Sierra, a digital marketing and brand strategist from Philadelphia.

For our final style spotlight of 2020, we’re pleased to introduce our new friend, Sierra (aka @sierracartergordon)! Born and raised in Philadelphia, Sierra knows a thing or two about fashion and personal style. We sat down with her to talk everything from statement pieces to reality-tv and everything in between. Check out what she has to say below:

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Germantown specifically).

How do you define your personal style? What or who are your some of your style inspirations?

My personal style in general, is kind of lazy. I like to pay attention to the “cool” trends that are going on. I feel like my staples are probably a crop top like I currently have on (Something easy and simple on the bottom). For style inspo, it definitely helps when one of your best friends is a stylist. She gives me a lot of tips, and styles a lot of my outfits.

What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?

Definitely this jacket that I have on right now. When I got it, I decided f*ck it, I’m going to splurge (I feel like I never splurge on pieces like this). Honestly, it’s such an easy throw on, and it’s a statement in itself. So, I really don’t have to do too much.

Also, I love good details. You can always catch me with a few gold necklaces on. Right now for winter, I would say these combat boots. They’re definitely a huge staple.

Where do you shop?

Sadly, a boutique that I help run around the corner at 2nd and Market has closed. So, for years, a lot of my wardrobe has come from there. Other than that, I would say random brands that I find on Instagram, local shops, ASOS, and Zara!

Describe your personal style in three words?

Sleek/tailored, muted, and confident!

Any fashion related tips?

Be confident. Sometimes, I’ll put something on, and not really sure if I can pull this off. This jacket, for instance, I told myself for two weeks that I couldn’t pull it off. Today, threw it on, looked in the mirror, and told myself, “No, I look good!” So, be confident in what you put on, and it doesn’t matter what other people think.

MATCHING SWEATSUIT

JASMINE | PHILADELPHIA, PA

What she wore: A matching sweatsuit and sneakers.

Style tip: Color-blocking or not, you can always pair a matching sweatsuit with a solid color shoe. For Jasmine, she went with a pair of Nikes.

BLACK LEATHER

JUSTIN | MOUNT HOLLY, NJ

What he wore: A thrifted leather moto jacket, an “I’m Black First” graphic t-shirt, denim jeans, and a pair of wide legged trousers.

Style tip: Pair your favorite graphic-tee with a thrifted moto jacket for a “Happy Days” look. Make sure your leather is a little worn too!

STYLE SPOTLIGHT: MINA

“Welcome to “Style Spotlight,” a series dedicated to our most inspiring, fashion influencers.”

An interview with social media influencer and image consultant, Mina.

For this week’s Style Spotlight feature, we had an opportunity to sit down and chat with our homegirl, Mina (aka @stylebybeautifulsoul). Outside of being a social media influencer, parent, image consultant, and model, Mina has a one of a kind look that’s all her own. Here’s what Mina had to say about her personal style:

Where are you from?

West Philadelphia born and raised.

How do you define your personal style? What or who are your some of your style inspirations?

I’d have to say my personal style draws inspiration from the fine line between femininity and masculinity. It is the combination of androgyny, wearing and doing what you want to do.

Some of my inspiration is based on my mood. I wear all different types of styles. Sometimes I wear sweatpants or sneakers, and other times I’m overdressed for lunch at McDonalds.

What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?

Taft shoes and boots! They’re such statement pieces. I could wear a sweatshirt, plaid pants, and Taft boots and look like a million dollars. They’re probably one of my favorite accessories, including brooches and rings. Anything that makes the outfit pop!

Where do you shop?

I shop wherever I can find clothes that fit me. Since I’m a smaller person that tends to dress more masculine, it’s hard to find clothes that fit. I shop at ASOS, Zara, Amazon, Express, and thrift stores. It really just depends on what I can find.

Describe your personal style in three words?

Androgynous, classic, and timeless.

Any fashion related tips?

Always remember that style is not the clothes you wear, but how YOU wear the clothes. So, if you like it, and it feels stylish to you, then wear it like it’s stylish, and it will be your style.
