Hey friends!

For our latest Style Spotlight, we caught up another stylish gent from Philly, Hasan! Check out his full interview below:

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia! I’m currently living in the Fishtown area.

How do you define your personal style? What or who are your some of your style inspirations?

Growing up, I loved to play games like Grand Theft Auto. There are parts in the game where the you as the player has to drive around, go to different stores, and try on a bunch of clothes. The game allows the player to assume a different identity every time. That’s how I am in the real world! One day, you might see me in grungy outfit or the next day you could catch me in something a little more cozy. Everyday, I switch up my style. You never know what Hasan you’re going to get.

My three sisters are my biggest style inspirations! They’ve helped me tap into a more feminine style that I always wanted to embrace. For the longest, I dressed more masculine presenting, but my style is more layered than that.

What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?

A good pair of sneakers, cable knit sweaters, turtlenecks, a baseball cap, and accessories (Rings, belts, earrings, hats, and scarves).

Where do you shop?

I tend to shop anywhere with a sale. Some of my favorite shops are ASOS, Boohoo, and UNIQLO. I love to thrift as well!

Describe your personal style in three words?

Cozy, loud, and fun!

Any fashion related tips?

Fellas, don’t be afraid to shop in the women’s section. Most clothes are unisex anyway. Plus, women have been shopping in the men’s section for a very long time. Just head over to the women’s section and see if something fits your personal style. You’ll don’t want to miss out on all the fun!

Introducing Olu, a fashion enthusiast from Philly

Hey everyone and welcome back!

This month’s Style Spotlight is on Olu, a well traveled, fashion enthusiast from Philadelphia! With an afternoon full of modeling, laughter, and good energy, Olu is here to show us how to keep things simple in a white tee and denim shorts combo.

Where are you from?

I’m from North Philly!

How do you define your personal style? What or who are your some of your style inspirations?

I would describe my personal style as simplistic. I love a denim and white tee moment, especially for the summer.

Some of my inspiration comes from urban, hipster, and “outdoorsy” style influences.

What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?

I’m really big on accessories! More specifically, bracelets and rings. I kind of feel naked without them.

I’ve grown my accessory collection over time (Wooden beaded and brass bracelets from Cuba and Nigeria). I’m bringing all those places with me as I wear each accessory.

Where do you shop?

I like to shop on ASOS and SSENSE!

Describe your personal style in three words?

Urban, fun, and relaxed!

Any fashion related tips?

A simple white tee and denim shorts go a long way. It’s very simple, refreshing, and definitely in style for the summer!

Reintroducing Jamillia, a loc enthusiast with an eye for fashion.

Hey everyone! Do you remember Jamillia? She made her debut way back in 2014 on the blog (You can find her post here). Luckily, we were able to reconnect, and she agreed to participate in our latest Style Spotlight!

Where are you from?

I’m from West Philadelphia born and raised (By a way of Liberia, West Africa)!

How do you define your personal style? What or who are your some of your style inspirations?

I define my personal style as comfortable, accessible, and creative. Style is about what makes you feel confident, what makes you feel beautiful, and what makes you feel like your best self (and that changes everyday).

In terms of style inspiration, I  love Rihanna and SZA! I also appreciate the girl next door, that makes things “do what it do” with what she has. When we think about fashion and personal style, most people are drawn to labels and name brands, which is fine. Lets think outside the box though. You can always go to a vintage shop and create a really great look. Remember, you have to be comfortable in your own skin and ready to try new things!

What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?

The basic thing is balance, starting from high end pieces to comfortable apparel. On the high end side, we have blazers, hats, and heels. For starters, we all need blazers, in every color too! I’m also into hats of all sizes. For a long time, I was into berets (In red, black, and mustard specifically. In addition, everyone needs a pair of heels (I love camel). Don’t forget your comfortable apparel as well, including sweatpants and oversized sweatshirts (I love XXL sweatshirts).

Where do you shop?

I primarily shop in my Mother’s closet! Also, I love vintage stores. We didn’t have a lot of resources growing up. So, we were always shopping in the Goodwill or Salvation Army (Before it was cool to got thrifting). I’m a fan TJ Maxx and Ross as well (You can find everything for low). In terms of some of the upcoming designers, I’m a fan of Telfar and Brandon Blackwood.

Describe your personal style in three words?

Whimsical, adventurous, and chic!

Any fashion related tips?

Be yourself, do you, try new things, wear colors you don’t typically wear, and if you feel good in it…wear it!
