STYLE SPOTLIGHT: MICHAEL

“Welcome to “Style Spotlight,” a series dedicated to our most inspiring, fashion influencers.”

Introducing Michael, a monochromatic enthusiast with an eccentric sense of style.

Meet Michael, a Brooklyn born creative that loves any and everything solid color or monochromatic. More specifically, he loves a good all-black fit!

For our second Style Spotlight of the week, we asked Michael a few questions about his personal style preferences. You can check out his full story below:

Where are you from?

I’m from New Jersey, by a way of Brooklyn, NY.

How do you define your personal style? What or who are your some of your style inspirations?

My personal style is based on my mood. Basically, I wear whatever I feel like wearing that day. When I’m planning an outfit, I ask myself, “Who am I going to be today? What story am I trying to tell? Where am I going?”

I take all those questions, and bring them together!

I’m very inspired by art. Definitely, shapes and colors. With that being said, I prefer a lot of monochromatic moments. I like all black or all one color with small touches of patterns worked in. I’m not one for too many colors in general (That’s too busy for me and my liking).

What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?

I really like accessories. They add those final touches to your outfit that makes it truly unique. That’s the way I approach fashion in general (Trying to put “me” into the my style). When we step out, you shouldn’t look like an H&M mannequin or something you saw on a rack or poster. I like to approach things as an individual.

Where do you shop?

Everywhere (Online, ASOS, ZARA, and ORTTU)! I also like to repurpose thrifted items and pair them with newer pieces to create different looks.  I’m definitely a person that’s looking for something to catch my eye immediately. Whenever I find something of interest, I make the purchase and elevate it.

Describe your personal style in three words?

Fun, bold, and unique!

Any fashion related tips?

You should always be truthful to yourself. Fashion is definitely a journey. So, don’t be afraid to try out different things. I know we get to a point in believing that a certain style is who we are, but be willing to try different colors, patterns, textures. You will open up a new world of options. Take risks!

HOW TO GET THE WIDE LEG TREND FROM YOUR CLOSET

JASMINE GOODWIN | PHILADELPHIA, PA

What she wore: A pair of printed wide-leg pants, an off the shoulder top, and heels.

Style tip: Wide-leg pants have became the default for quite some time now, and it doesn’t look like the trend is going anywhere any time soon. Bonus: Ladies, you have options! These pants work well with practically any top. Consider a blouse, crop top, or blazer for an effortless look.

STYLE SPOTLIGHT: KRISTIANNA

“Welcome to “Style Spotlight,” a series dedicated to our most inspiring, fashion influencers.”

Meet Kristianna, the black Molly Ringwald.

This weeks Style Spotlight is Kristianna, make-up guru, 80s glammer girl, and Youtube vlogger. We met up with Kristianna to find out more about the self proclaimed, black Molly Ringwald. Check out her full story below:

Where are you from?

So, I’m a Jersey girl, but I’ve been in Philly for quite some time. I moved here in 2013 to work as an union organizer.

How do you define your personal style? What or who are your some of your style inspirations?

I’m really into the whole 80s, granny, chic look. I consider myself a black Molly Ringwald. I absolutely love her, and have to tell her one day! Also, I really admire the courage of Tracee Ellis Ross, and her ability to experiment with fashion. I don’t necessarily model my entire look after her. I kind of go with my own vibe.

What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?

Prints! Whether that’s like floral and stripes. Every outfit has to have some sort of print. That’s kind of my thing!

Where do you shop?

I pretty much go where I can afford. Most of my clothes are secondhand. As long as you know how to put things together, where it comes from doesn’t really matter.

Although I rarely dismantle things, I’m currently wearing a piece that I took apart from an 80s prom dress. I normally don’t do that, since vintage is a part of history that we get to enjoy.

Describe your personal style in three words?

Funky, fun, and pink!

Any fashion related tips?

Don’t be afraid to experiment! Even if something seems out of the ordinary for you, try it out! Even if it means you’re wearing it in house before you get the guts to go out into the world with it. There’s too much style to explored, and not try.

WOULD YOU WEAR A BURGUNDY SUIT?

COLE WOODS | HADDON TOWNSHIP, NJ

What she wore: A burgundy overcoat, pants, leather corset, and heels.

Style tip: If you enjoy business attire that is both fashion forward and dynamic, channel your inner Olivia Pope with a sleek pants suit and heels. Remember, a long, burgundy overcoat pairs perfectly with a leather corset and gold jewelry to match. Oh, and don’t forget your sunglasses ladies!
