Where are you from?

What’s good y’all? My name is Raheem, and I’m from Harlem, NY (Born and raised)!

How do you define your personal style? What or who are your some of your style inspirations?

I define my style by a couple of words like essence, and just being true to self. I feel inspired by the people that decide what fashion means to them, and they express that. So, I’m big on black owned businesses, and expressing one’s self through what one wears.

What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?

If I’m stepping out, I like to wear a nice leather jacket. During the winter, a prefer peacoats, which are very essential since they’re so dynamic. You can wear it with some jeans or you can slay it with a business fit. Oh, and we can’t forget the sweatpants and hoodie combo, but that’s for my casual style.

Where do you shop?

As mentioned previously, I’m big on supporting black owned businesses. Whether it’s for a friend or small town fashion things, I like to support those. They’re that much rarer than anything you see on the streets. Few people have what we’re creating.

Describe your personal style in three words?

Essence, carefree, and purposeful.

Any fashion related tips?

Stay true to yourself. It’s important to remember fashion and spirit wise, there’s no one else like you on this entire earth. Keep your mind open to learning about different styles that could possibly be outlets for you.

Read the full interview below:

Where are you from?

I’m originally from York, Pennsylvania, but I’ve been living in Philadelphia for eleven years.  So, I guess I’m technically a “Philadelphian” now. My husband and I live in the Northern Liberties area.

How do you define your personal style? What or who are your some of your style inspirations?

Growing up, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was a very popular sitcom, and I often got called Carlton Banks (Funny enough, my last name is Banks-Weston). As an adult, I tend to channel that playful aspect to my personal style. Furthermore, I like to take the word “prep” to the next level! I’m giving a lot of nerd, since I like to play with different patterns and colors. Think, playful prep with bright colors!

What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?

One thing I always have in my closet is a statement loafer. They’re really important! People always pay attention to what you have on your feet, whether you realize it or not. In addition, I love neutrals, colorful pieces. I like to wear colorful sweaters and shirts that pair well with any pattern. Lastly, I wear hats almost everyday. Although I’m balding, hats frame my face really well. For those that have a head shape like mine, a hat can really pull together an outfit as well.

Where do you shop?

My favorite stores at the moment are Banana Republic, UNIQLO, Cole Haan, and Kenneth Cole.

Describe your personal style in three words?

Playful-prep, whimsy, and elevated.

Any fashion related tips?

How I’ve always approached style is to not be afraid to try something  once. It’s easy to get caught up in our heads sometimes, and think about everything that’s not going to work for us. Really good “fashionship” is to try it with your true style, and see how it works! Then, you can edit all the time. Edit, edit, edit!
