December Monthly Archives

Casual: Denim Shirt

In the past three months, we have covered a variety of looks and trends within the fall 2014 season. This includes everything from flannel shirts and clunky cardigans, to printed rompers and mid length dresses. Now, that’s a lot of material!

Since tomorrow is the first official day of winter , it’s imperative that we close out this season on a high note. Our overall goal was to capture the underlying theme of casual and style in one post.

Without hesitation, we decided to hit up our girl Alicia for our final individual style feature. Fortunately enough for us, Alicia was more than happy to show off another fall inspired look from her wardrobe.

Check out her post below!

post_woman3_091414_01Flashback! Last time we checked in with this educator, she was prancing around the city in her most appropriate business casual attire. Today, we caught Ms. Alicia on a very relaxed afternoon. She ditched “business,” and decided to keep it 100% causal.

Honestly, you can never go wrong with denim in general, especially a button-down. Either fitted or over-sized, a denim button-down can be paired with a pants, shorts, or a skirt. In the fall, pants are your best option.

post_woman3_091414_03We really love how Alicia pulled this simple look together. She decided to combine her light washed, denim button-down with a pair of olive pants and heels.

Ironically, this was one of those looks Alicia accidentally put together. She states, “This outfit was one of those random purchases. I went to the mall to purchase one thing, and walked out with so much more.”

Alicia, we completely understand! This often happens to us, especially during the holiday season.

Happy Reading folks!

Casual: Layering

Since we are more than halfway through December and one week away from celebrating Christmas, it’s time for another transitional period for your wardrobe. Yes, we understand that the seasons are changing again, but mother nature does not hold back on anyone.

Think about it! If you are still dressing like its the early days of fall with short sleeve shirts and thin sweaters, please consider the temperature outside.

Remember, it’s holiday season folks! Do you want to open your gifts by the tree, or do you want to be in bed with a box of tissues and medicine resting at your side? We definitely say the tree!

One way you can stay afloat this season is by dressing in layers. Now, if you don’t know how to wear layers appropriately, this post is for you. Below, our friend Kashief demonstrates how to pull off a layered look. Check out his full individual style feature below.

post_man2_091914_03Okay, we have been rambling about layering for like eight posts now. Let’s take this entire concept a step further and put a medieval twist on it. Yes, medieval!

Imagine that Mother Nature is the main antagonist of this story, and your immune system is up for grabs. Mother Nature eventually infiltrates your kingdom and prepares to attack. With your back up against the wall, layering is your first line of defense. This layered roster includes long sleeve t-shirts, cardigans, sweaters, hooded sweatshirts, sports coats, and jackets! Furthermore, the second line of defense includes outfits created by your layered items. Remember, each item can be mixed and matched together to create a variety of looks. These looks are used to create a wall around your kingdom, preventing Mother Nature from attacking further. THE END.

Yes, our story sounds magical and great, but it’s the reality of wearing layers. Plus, when mastered correctly, layering can turn any basic outfit into a stylish ensemble.

Outside of the medieval story, we dress in layers for most outdoor settings.

Suppose you are going for that causal look, try pairing flannel printed button-downs and sweatshirts together. Flannel prints are very popular this season, and every retail store sells them for cheap prices.

Take our boy Kashief for example. Mr. Butler shops at H&M for most of his layering pieces. His flannel button-down, sweatshirt, and denim jacket were all purchased from H&M.

In contrast to H&M, Kashief purchased his khakis and socks from GAP, while his shoes came from Johnston & Murphy.

He also accessorized his denim jacket with a LOVE pin from Natrl Born Heart Brkers.

Overall, we love this look! It’s giving us classy, preppy, and and touch of urban all at the same time.

As part of our mission statement, UnregisteredStyle aims to establish a repertoire of style within the online community. We use personal style to promote fashion, creativity, and individuality. Once a week, we post individual style features, where our “models” express themselves through clothes.

Although our readers love our individual styles features, they also inquired more information about the man behind the camera. Up until recently, I was hardly ever featured on the blog. I may have popped in one or two times a season. Now, I have taken it upon myself to create a variety of looks for #MensStyleMondays. Most of the time, you will catch me wearing a sweatshirt, jeans, and desert boots to the mall, or a sport coat, button-down, necktie, and slacks to Happy Hour. Although most of these looks are considered “Daytime” appropriate, I have never featured anything that relates to the after hours. When I say after hours, I mean sleepwear.

Sleepwear? Why would you ever want to do a post about sleepwear?

Recently, I was inspired by a new sleep, start up company, Casper, to show off one of my bedtime looks (Based out of New York, Casper aims to re-imagine the concept of mattress shopping).

At first, I was reluctant to create a post about my night time regiment. After some thought, I realized that our readers may love this concept!

Okay, so let’s get back on schedule. After a long day at work, my evening regimen includes brushing my teeth, watching television shows, reading, and listening to music. For example, if I get started at 9pm, I’m normally ready for bed by 10:30 or 11.

So, what do you wear to bed?

Typically, I look to wear dress comfortable for bed. In this particular case, I threw on my grey tank with a light washed denim shirt. The tank was purchased in a set from H&M for under $5. You can’t pass on an item that’s both comfortable and fitted. Now, I purchased this denim shirt back in the day from Old Navy. This shirt serves as an additional layer for most of my casual and lounging outfits. I can’t get enough of it!

For the bottoms, I went with joggers and a pair of suede loafers from DSW Shoe Warehouse. Although most people wear their skinny joggers throughout the day, I wear them at night. If you catch me after hours, more than likely, I’m wearing a pair. These blue joggers were purchased on sale from ASOS for $17 last spring and I have been in love with them ever since.

So, what do you like wearing to bed? Feel free to discuss below!

There’s nothing like kicking off the week with a little burst of sunshine, especially during one of the coldest months of the year. Luckily for us, the weather has been working in our favor. In the Northeast, the temperature has been moderately cool, ranging from 35 to 60 degrees throughout the week. As we are nearing the end of December, this “Good” won’t last forever. I predict that the temperature will drop another ten degrees.

Before we fully invest ourselves into the winter season, I wanted to appreciate the last days of fall by wearing less layers and throwing on my favorite color, yellow! During the fall and winter, I typically wear a lot of navy. However, this mild weather has given me a change of heart. Today, I decided to throw on my favorite sweatshirt from H&M. You can call me a little biased, but I love the color. It’s so rich and of course, yellow.

Rather than wearing a flannel shirt under my sweatshirt, I decided to wear it tied around my waist. You know how much I love channeling the 90s, especially my inner Dylan McKay (A character from Beverly Hills, 90210 you 90s babies!). For the rest of my outfit, I decided to squeeze into my favorite skinny jeans with a pair of suede desert boots.
