With the help of my good friend Seonne, we put together two, retro inspired looks. In case you didn’t understand my love for everything old school, know that I spent a lot of time conceptualizing these 60s inspired outfits.

Take, for instance, this graphic tee from What’s Up African? Apparel. Not only does this “Unify or Die” shirt pay homage to the new generation of liberation fighters, it challenges the many years of systematic racism and social inequalities through two powerful words.

Sounds deep, right?

Since the shirt already has a powerful message, we decided to tone it down with other black pieces. For myself, I went with a black moto jacket, skinny jeans, and a pair of classic Chuck Taylors.

Now, I can’t speak for Seonne, but I’m loving both of these looks. We definitely put a modern twist on this militant inspired style.

Typically, the color grey is associated with words like sorrow, detachment, and lack of character. Sounds pretty depressing, right?

Recently, within the world of fashion, there has become a sudden interest in grey.

Why? No one knows exactly. Perhaps the movie, 50 Shades of Grey has sparked a greater appreciation for the color.

Whatever the case may be, I decided to keep it casual in this all grey outfit. Overall, the look itself is very simple.

For example, the solid color military surplus coat, long line tee, skinny jeans, and desert boots take simplicity to the next level. The leopard print sweatshirt adds a little character to my overall appearance.

Being that my homegirl, Tannis, and I are like kindred spirits when it comes to personal style, we thought it would a great idea to put this little impromptu outfit together. I guess you an call it his and her double denim.

When wearing double denim, it’s very important to mix and match your washes. Yes, we mentioned this tip in a previous post, but we can’t stress it enough! You should always aim for a dark, medium, or light contrast.

For this particular look, I went with a light wash button-up, and medium wash pair of skinny jeans.

Tannis actually kept her washes in the same color scheme. Her un-matching denim pieces were broken up with an over-sized, medium wash shirt, and a pair of dark wash jeans from Madewell.

Similar to the denim, we both agreed to wear camel colored coats.

Why? Well, camel and denim look great together, especially during the winter. So, invest in a camel coat today!

To finish up, we both decided to throw on our favorite black boots. Of course, Tannis tried to out do me in her suede, heeled boots. It’s all love though.

Wearing white after Labor Day has become more common that ever these days. Traditionally, wearing white out of season is considered taboo within the fashion community. However, some of your favorite stores including H&M, Urban Outfitters, Banana Republic, and Uniqlo are beginning to sell white garments year round.

For this post, I wanted to go with a very casual look. So, I decided to show off my winter white inspired outfit. My white crew neck long sleeved shirt and distressed jeans were purchased from GAP and ASOS respectively. For a pop of color, I threw on my chunky, camel colored cardigan and suede desert boots.
