“Black is modest and arrogant at the same time. Black is lazy and easy — but mysterious. But above all black says this: I don’t bother you — don’t bother me.” – Yohji Yamamoto

Can you recall a time when you couldn’t find anything to wear? This was one of many situations in which your closet was full of clothes, and you only had ten minutes to get ready. What did you do?

Nine times out of ten, you probably found something black to wear. Depending on the season, black is one of those universal colors that can be worn with almost any pattern, print, or color. You can practically wear it anywhere, except to a wedding a course!

If you are wondering how to wear black casually, just ask our good friend, Donisha! Hailing all the way from North Carolina, we had a chance to catch up with this Urban Planner during one of our weekend excursions. Today, Donisha shows off one of her weekend friendly outfits. She had this about her look, “I would wear this outfit to my retail job or a fun Saturday out and about with friends.”

Yes, Donisha! This is one of those fun little outfits you could wear around the city. For starters, you can’t go wrong with a graphic shirt and blazer combo! For instance, just check our the details in the shirt. Donisha states, “My favorite piece of the outfit is the shirt because it sparkles ! What girl you know know don’t like a little sparkle?”

We agree Donisha, the shirt is very cute! Furthermore, the shirt and blazer combo is the perfect look for any rainy day, especially during the winter.

Also, we love how you threw us off with a black skirt. Traditionally, the everyday shopper would wear a nice pair of pants with this look, but not our girl Donisha. She was channeling her old school Vanessa Huxtable with her above the knee skirt. She was definitely giving us business up top, but party at the bottom. Why not add a few more guests to the party with pair of black stocking and leather buckled boots? We don’t see a problem.

Overall, we loved Donisha’s weekend outfit. What do you think? Leave us some comments below.

Brands: Arok: “Already Rich”

If you’ve ever had any musical talent, chances are that you’ve tried to pursue a music career at some point or another. For the everyday musically inclined artist, your days are spent fantasizing about becoming the next platinum selling recording artist. Just imagine a world where you are the face of every magazine, media website, and album artwork across the world. If you plan on achieving that high level fame and success, you have to put in a lot of hard work.

Furthermore, there’s nothing like capturing the true essence of fame and stardom than actually sitting down and having a conversation with an artist in the business. Recently, we had an opportunity to sit down with an old friend of ours, Arok, to discuss his journey into the world of music. Check out his full interview below.

Let’s discuss the history of your brand. When and why were you created?
“I got the team together in order utilize our talents for the greater good. We all have talents in different areas so I felt it was best that we linked together in the form of music.”

What is the objective of your brand?
“With the title of the album being “Already Rich,” I intend to inspire the realization to the listeners that money is not everything and all the tools to everlasting happiness come free in life. You are ALREADY RICH.”

What does your brand offer to your consumers and customers?
Alongside great music, the brand offers merchandise in the form of t shirts which come with a purchase of a CD. As far as the music, we offer a breath of fresh air sound and a theme that is very different from the rest and uplifting at the same time.

How are you able to distinguish your brand from others?
I am taking a more intimate approach with the people than my musical counterparts. I am not prioritizing the money in this aspect because I know the money will come. Instead I would rather teach people to love and value each other.

What are your long term goals for your brand?
I want to be able to host events that can benefit the youth in the form of awareness. I want to be able to efficiently teach the youth about ownership and inspire them to aspire for bigger endeavors in life as well as find themselves before they get too lost in the false reality fed by the media.

Where do you see your band in the next five years?
In the next five years I hope to be touring internationally as well have a variety of clothing by my brand. I also want to be respected for my musical capabilities as well as making a positive impact on the world.

Neck-Tie: Marshalls | Cardigan: ASOS
Denim Jeans: ASOS | Socks: H&M
Tassel Loafers: Hush Puppies/DSW

During one of those three day weekends in December, I had the opportunity to check out a random consignment shop in Brooklyn. This particular store sold a variety of used and refurbished items in excellent condition.

After spending an hour looking around the store, I eventually stumbled upon the perfect topcoat. To be honest, I rarely find coats that fit perfectly. Since my arms are disproportionate to my height, sleeve length is always a problem. Then, when I found a coat with long enough sleeves, the coat itself is too large.

Now, back to our original conversation. Not only did the sleeves cover the full length of my arms, this particular coat was long enough to keep my legs warm as well. Needless to say, this coat was a perfect addition to my outerwear collection. I typically wear it with the intent of dressing it up for the night.

As you can see in the outfit shown above, I like wearing this coat with a nice sweater, neck-tie, button-up, pants, and loafers. I tried to put together different styles, where I could pull specific hues from the coat. So, I went with a grey, mustard, and black color combination. Most of these items were already sitting in my closet, except for the skinny jeans and tassel loafers.

For months, I have been looking for a pair of skinny jeans in grey, and found them on ASOS. The loafers were purchased as a Christmas gift from Mom Dukes. Since I already owned the brown version, it was only appropriate to request the black pair as well.

Overall, this coat was a perfect buy for the winter. Hopefully, you can find other valuables from your local thrift store before this season runs out. Let us know what treasures you find in the comments section below.
