Here at the UnregisteredStyle, we love engaging with our readers on a weekly basis. When we are not taking pictures or blogging, most of our time is spent sorting through emails, receiving feedback, and answering questions regarding personal style.

This month, we received a new question from an anonymous reader, “I have difficulty understanding how or why people wear leather during the winter. I own atleast one leather jacket, but it never keeps me warm. So, how do you stay warm in leather?”

Leather can be a little tricky at times. To keep it real, leather looks great when worn with the right outfit. However, leather is not heavy enough to keep your entire body warm.

For example, I decided to throw on my favorite faux leather jacket for this week’s #MensStyleMondays feature. Now, this jacket was a quick buy from Urban Outfitters a couple years ago. Purchased for $40, this leather jacket is perfect for a casual day in the streets.

Although this jacket does a great job at preventing the wind from hitting my chest, my body is still cold from a poorly insulated coat. As a result, I’m forced to bundle up in layers. For a base layer, I wore a long sleeved, crew neck t-shirt from GAP. Shirts from GAP are typically a great buy, and I have owned this one for at least two years. Next, I grabbed an old Ralph Lauren plaid shirt from my closet. As mentioned in last week’s post, plaids are back this season. I love how my plaid shirt looks under the leather jacket.

Continuing with this casual themed look, I threw on my dark wash, skinny jeans from Hot Topic, with my newly purchased Aston Grey chelsea boots. I tried a black and brown contrast with my jacket, boots, and felt fedora.

Last, but not least, I couldn’t forget my Target gloves.

In conclusion, there is always a sacrifice when trying to look stylish. In this particular case, leather looks great when worn properly. However, you may have to wear two to three layers before stepping outside. So, that’s how I stay warm in leather. Hopefully, I answered your question!

Brands: G. Leon 1938 Menswear

Within the fashion industry, most designers share many of the same goals from a creative and business standpoint. Although most of these goals are geared towards success, some may never achieve this stature in life. For example, there are a number of menswear designers that specialize in custom and tailored garments for their consumers. Although most of these designers aim to create the best products for their consumers, many have difficulty branding and marketing their own creations. As a result, their creations are often unnoticed and unappreciated.

We may have rambled a bit but this discussion has a purpose: In order to be successful, you have to distinguish your brand from others. Now, how do you distinguish your brand from others? forutnately for us, we recently had the opportunity to meet up with a young fashion designer, Alicia Pinckney.

In 2013, Alicia created “G. Leon 1938 Menswear,” a custom clothing line that produces authentic garments. Ever since, Alicia has been able to brand her menswear collection within the city of Philadelphia.

Below, we have summarized some exclusive details from a recent interview with Alicia. also, check out some the latest items from her collection.

Although G. Leon 1938 Menswear aims to redefine modern men’s clothing, what does the collection even stand for?

When we met with Alicia, she had the following statement to say, “I’ve been studying menswear since 2012, however, with the death of my grandfather in 2013, I decided to dedicate my brand to him. His name was Grover Leon and he was born in 1938, which is highlighted in the name of the brand.

G. Leon 1938 has an aesthetic separate from others. The collection is made up of denims, prints, and earth tones like olive green, grays, blues and maroons. It is also styled with a vintage influence.

G. Leon 1938 offers custom, cut and sewn one of a kind garments. In addition to custom clothing, G. Leon will also be offering styling and consulting tips through a new blog platform on Tumblr here. This blog will highlight European fashion while I am in Italy for a year.

post_brands_122114_10“My long term goals for G. Leon, is to be recognized as an international designer. I would love for G. Leon to become a household name among the greats.” -Alicia Pinckney

Alicia has many goals for her collection in the future. She states, “In five years, I hope for G. Leon to be thriving in bout America and Europe. I hope to gain connections that will expand the audience of my brand. I would love to have a team by then as well, I am currently a one-woman show, with the help of family and friends for modeling and photography needs.”

Waist Coat: Ralph Lauren

In order to bring in the new year with style, I decided to kick off 2015 with a new #MensStyleMondays post.

But Bryce Lennon, it’s Wednesday. Yes, it’s Wednesday, but I couldn’t go another day without posting.

So without further ado, I would like to present one of my favorite outerwear pieces of 2015, the modern trench coat.

Considered part of the essential wardrobe, this jacket is perfect for any man that wants to stay dry on a rainy day. In addition, the modern trench coat is stylish enough for both formal and casual events.

For any formal occasion, try wearing your trench coat with a blazer, suit, or a tuxedo. On the other hand, you can wear your trench coat casually over your favorite  chinos, jeans, sweater, or button-down.

In this particular case, I decided to layer my trench coat over a few “semi-casual” essentials. For instance, I first paired my white button-down with a green and navy tartan printed waistcoat. Since bold prints are very trendy this season, the tartan waistcoat looked great over a solid colored shirt.

For my lower region, I continued with this “semi-casual” theme. So, I threw on my favorite burgundy chinos from H&M with a pair of polka dot socks and tassel leather loafers. Honestly, I think the burgundy pants were perfectly matched with the tartan waist coat. This color combo gives the outfit an overall winter feel.

As an extra layer, I threw on my Levis denim jacket under my trench coat. The denim jacket simply added the finishing touches to an already, dapper look.

What do you wear underneath your trench coat? Tell us about it in the comments section below!
