Meet Marisa, a Philly based natural hair stylist.

For our latest Style Spotlight, we sat down to chat with an old friend of ours, Marisa! We’ve been anticipating Marisa’s UnRegisteredStyle debut for quite some time now (Seven years to exact). Luckily, she made some time out of her busy schedule to drop by and answer some fashion related questions.

Where are you from?

I’m from Philadelphia, PA (Philly “Jawn” in the building)!

How do you define your personal style? What or who are your some of your style inspirations?

I would call my personal style edgy, mixed with feminine, yet bubbly with structure. I’ve always been a tomboy at heart (I was hardcore into sports growing up). I’m a bit of a chameleon. I would have to say, some of my biggest style inspirations are Teyana Taylor and SZA since they do the oversized, feminine silhouette so well. I do like the structured, soft, and flowy silhouettes like Tracee Ellis Ross and Andra Day. You can see how they’re very different on the spectrum, but I like both of them.

What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?

I’m very much a fun, t-shirt collector. If I go somewhere and find a cool or vintage t-shirt, I want it! I worked in retail in the past, and now that I have an understanding of denim (High rise, mid rise, and wide legged) and how it fits my body, I love it!

Where do you shop?

I shop all over! It can be from Target to Wal-Mart, Madewell (especially for my denim jeans), or thrift stores (Salvation Army and Goodwill). I gravitate towards whatever catches my eye.

Describe your personal style in three words?

Edgy, unconventional, and fun!

Any fashion related tips?

Do whatever you want when it comes to your style because you just want to let your personality shine through. If you want to mix metallic with sequins or something shiny, I’m all here for it! Don’t let those small tiny rules hold you back. Just let your personality shine!
