THE SUPER EASY WAY TO WEAR ALL BLACK

JASMINE | PHILADELPHIA, PA

What she wore: A black puffer, turtleneck slit dress, and chunky boots.

Style tip: Puffer jackets and dresses go together like peas and carrots. When both pieces are the same color, you can’t go wrong! Make sure you throw on a pair of matching boots as well.

STYLE SPOTLIGHT: VIDYA

“Welcome to “Style Spotlight,” a series dedicated to our most inspiring, fashion influencers.”

Connecting with Philly based artist, Vidya.

To kick of the work week, we’re putting this week’s Style Spotlight on our girl, Vidya!

From start to finish, we love how she creates sustainable, colorful ensembles to express her personality. Here’s what Vidya had to say about her style:

Where are you from?

I was born in Pennsylvania, and I moved to India when I was nine. That’s where most of my family lives. I’ve been in Philly for the past five years.

How do you define your personal style? What or who are your some of your style inspirations?

I would define my personal style as an extension of my art (I really love expressing myself through fashion). So, I find myself dabbling in lots of colorful clothing. I like things that are comfortable, and I can do active things since I’m always on the go. Anything that’s comfortable, fun, and colorful!

What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?

Definitely skate sneakers for sure. I really like cargo pants! Girls receive the short end of the stick when it comes to pockets. You have to get the pockets! Also, I love crop tops!

Where do you shop?

I mostly thrift. A few years ago, I decided to become more sustainable with my clothing choices. For the last year, I haven’t purchased any clothes. I wasn’t even thrifting! So, I ended up learning about a lot of local designers, and people who source clothes from very ethical places. Its been an ongoing journey to find the most sustainable practices. In Philly, I mostly thrift and I have a lot of cool friends that make clothes. I get a lot of stuff from them too.

Describe your personal style in three words?

Fun, comfortable, and colorful!

Any fashion related tips?

Fashion to me is extension of myself. Make sure that whatever you wear makes you happy, and brings you joy. It will show! You’ll feel more confident, and you’ll be able to take on whatever you’re doing for the day with a smile on your face.

WOULD YOU WEAR A SWEATSUIT?

ISAAC | PHILADELPHIA, PA

What he wore: A matching gray sweatsuit, wool pea coat, and Nike sneakers.

Style tip: Guess what? Sweatsuits are back in style this season, and they’re more stylish than ever! Wear it with your favorite peacoat for a finished look. For cool points, throw on a pair of matching sneakers.

STYLE SPOTLIGHT: RASHEEDAH

“Welcome to “Style Spotlight,” a series dedicated to our most inspiring, fashion influencers.”

Introducing Rasheedah, your favorite retro inspired thrifter.

Meet Rasheeda, a Jersey fashionista that loves everything from leisurewear to thrift stores!  We sat down with her to talk any and everything fashion related. Check out what she had to say below:

Where are you from?

I’m from South Orange, NJ!

How do you define your personal style? What or who are your some of your style inspirations?

I consider my style “Tomboy Chic,” and I like to be super relaxed in my clothing. I love Teyana Taylor and Rihanna’s looks!

Also, I really like the 70s and 80s. Those were really fun and funky decades. There were a lot of prints, trends, and bell-bottoms.

What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?

Since we’re in quarantine, my “go-to” pieces are sweatpants and sweatshirts. Very comfortable! You can always dress up a sweatshirt or pants with a pair of heels, sneakers, and Nike socks. I have a picture on my page where I dressed up this nice, houndstooth blazer (I wore sweatpants and heels on with them). Going out, I love oversized coats. I’m very comfortable, unless I have to dress up. Then, it changes.

Where do you shop?

Lately, I’ve been thrifting. You find so many different, unique pieces for very cheap. It’s very fun to just pick through the blazers and men’s section.

Describe your personal style in three words?

Tomboy, chic, and trendy!

Any fashion related tips?

When shopping, I would check the thrift store first. You will find so many hidden treasures, and you can find so many things to put together on a budget. You don’t have spend a lot of money on clothes. If you see something, you can always dress it up or down. I would recommend going thrifting first before spending a lot of money.
