During the midst of an economic recession, learning how to budget is one of the most important life skills you can learn. If that means cutting back on some of your most treasured purchases, than you may have to pass on those Louis Vuitton shoes you planned to purchase later this month. As a result, you may have to consider shopping on the sale rack.

The sale rack? Yes, the sale rack. Most of the items found on the sale rack are usually cheaper, since they are leftovers from the previous season.

So, how can this benefit me? Well, Shopping out of season can be very rewarding, especially if you want to save a few dollars.  Most retail stores that offer sales and promotions to bring in new merchandise. Think about it! You can never pass on a great opportunity to fill your closet with some great finds. If that means wearing last season’s sweater tomorrow, then make it work!

If you still don’t know how to shop on the sale rack, just ask our girl MyAsia Reid. Straight out of Philadelphia, this graphic designer Today, she has put together an outfit for less than $20. Her outfit includes a black lace summer dress, corduroy skirt, leopard red scarf, tights, and red pumps.

Originally, MyAsia was looking for a great top to contrast with her summer skirt. She found an old lace dress from Buffalo Exchange in her closet. Sometimes, mixing and matching prints can be a hit or miss. If you don’t believe us, just listen to MyAsia. She states, “I love mixing patterns, textures and layers together because you can be expressive to the max without saying much at all.”

We couldn’t agree more! Now, in order to transition between the lace dress and corduroy skirt, MyAsia decided to get a little creative by tying an old leopard print scarf around her waist.

What purpose does this serve? When it comes to saving money, you have to get a little innovative. So, the best option for MyAsia was to create a belt from scratch, rather than swiping her credit card for another one.

Now that we have this lace top, corduroy skirt, and thick red “belt,” MyAsia finished off her look with a pair of red pumps and tights.

Overall, you should never be afraid to shop out of season. You never know what treasures can be found on the sale rack.
