For this weekend’s individual style feature, our girl Kelli shows how to dress appropriately for a chilly evening.

Known for her chic and classy style, Kelli is all about statement pieces! Even much so, she put together an outfit including a long sleeve crop top, skirt, boots, and a brightly colored pea coat.

In general, the wool pea coat is the perfect outerwear piece, especially during a chilly evening. Once you add a bold color like red to the mix, you have a very appealing look.

Even further, we love how Kelli was able to balance out her outfit using warmer colors. For example, shades of red and yellow go perfectly together, even when you add a little black to the mix.

Overall, this the perfect evening look. Great job Kelli!

Lifestyle: Jumping Colors

“This final project was implemented to celebrate the glory of melanin and to address the beauty in the various pigments of brown women.” -AmandaLuxe

Recently, I teamed up with a New York City urban enthusiast, Amanda Moore-Karim, on a special project entitled, “Jumping Colors.” Over the course of a month, Amanda assembled a strong team of models, stylists, and a great photographer (Myself), to bring her vision to life.A modern piece of art, Jumping Colors delivers a powerful message. It serves to highlight the beauty within ethnic beauty.

Amanda states, “It’s unfortunate that the Light Skin vs. Dark Skin epidemic still exists in our community; creating a divide amongst our people. It saddens me the stereotypes associated with a skin tone are still a thing. It can get annoying for a woman of light skin pigmentation to be perceived as bourgeoisie. It can get exhausting with the constant nasty jokes a woman of dark skin pigment puts up with. At the end of day, we’re all Black. We are all beautiful and should be grateful God has blessed us with this brilliant feature known as melanin–no matter the hue.”

From the perspective of lighter skinned African American male, it’s very sad that our race is still split along color lines. Whether I’m receiving unfair treatment from other races or experiencing resentment based on my “light skinned privileges” (Reinforced by insecurities within our own race), my “blackness” has always been attacked from both sides. Growing up, my siblings and I were raised to see a spectrum of brown. My father is a dark skinned African American man, and my mother is a light skinned, African/Native American woman. Since my parents have completely different skin complexions, they made us full aware of our melanin beauty. Plus, black was always black in the Carmichael household.

However, as an adult, I realized that everyone was not raised with the same mentality. This is why Jumping Colors really hit home to me. From the darkest chocolate to the lightest vanilla , we have to appreciate and love our blackness. It all starts within.

Jeans: RiverIsland | Loafers: ASOS

For the last couple of months, I’ve had my heart set out on finding a longline cardigan. Fortunately, ASOS had one in stock for $16.50. Yes, $16.50!

Beyond it’s dirt cheap price, this cardigan is a standout for sure! Worn casually around the house, or in the streets, you have so many styling options.

Per usual, my outfit is never complete without a few important pieces. This includes a muscle crew neck shirt, a pair of distressed skinny jeans, and suede loafers. I guess you can call this the “Bryce Lennon” staple.

How Did I Wear…

post_bryce3_013016_06post_bryce3_013016_02post_bryce3_013016_03post_bryce3_013016_04post_bryce3_013016_05Jacket: H&M | Tee: ASOS |
Jeans: ASOS | Flannel: H&M |
Boots: DSW

How did I wear…a moto jacket?

As mentioned in a previous post, one of my favorite Christmas gifts this year was the black, leather moto jacket from H&M.

Tip: Although these coats were apparently sold everywhere, finding a decent Moto jacket was a very difficult task. Stores like H&M, Forever21, Zara, and ASOS were selling out like crazy! So, make sure to preorder or purchase one immediately upon discovery.

Why? To be honest, I’ve been in search of the perfect moto jacket for two years. This one had to stand out in the crowd. When opening this particular gift, I was more than satisfied.

Tip: Don’t settle for a simple moto jacket. There are many other options available. Consider my letterman/moto jacket if you can find it.

Not only was this jacket perfect for my street style wardrobe, it’s contrasting leather sleeves put a twist on the classic, letterman style.

Tip: Don’t confine your jacket to just casual looks. You can wear it with very casual, to formel looks. The possibilities are endless!

Styling wise, I paired together a simple muscle, crew neck tee from Asos with those infamous DIY distressed denim jeans. For a little black and brown contrast, I slid in to my favorite pair of suede, chelsea boots.

Most of my outfits are never complete without the inclusion of an old checkered flannel shirt. As shown above, I just tied it around my waist. Simple, right?
