Casual: Tribal Prints

In the past four years, there has been a rise in ethnically inspired garments, specifically in women’s fashion. Most of these garments are often combinations of tribal patterns and prints that were replicated from indigenous societal and native cultures. In addition, these modern garments were influenced by the creations of Aztec, Mexican, Navajo, and other South American civilizations.

This fall season, there has been a large request for shirts and pants in tribal prints. However, these tribal prints are uneasy to wear. For this post, we are showing how to pull off a tribal patterned shirt with Janaia.

As mentioned above, it may be difficult to determine which pieces to wear with your tribal prints. You want to stay away from combining a variety of tribal prints. Remember, too much print can visually draw attention away from outfit. When wearing tribal prints, it’s important to balance out your outfit with solid and neutral colors that don’t take away from your outfit.

In this post, Janaia pairs her tribal button-down with a solid, white tank top, navy tights, and brown boots. Her color selection was based upon the brown, navy, white, and green colors found within her shirt. These colors reflect the essence of fall. Janaia states, “The color scheme is perfect because we are now transitioning to fall. This is the season of warmth and nature’s finest green’s, yellow’s and browns.”

Let’s break down Janaia’s entire outfit further. As shown, she is wearing a green tribal printed button-down from H&M. Although her shirt is a bit oversized, this shirt is a perfect layer for fall afternoons. The shirt can either be buttoned and unbuttoned depending on the temperature outside.

In order to find a shirt in a similar look and size, don’t be afraid to take a look in the men’s section. Although a men’s shirt is larger in size, just roll up the sleeves and you’re ready to take a stroll outside.

“I also want to make a note that I actually bought the shirt in the men’s section. So ladies don’t’ be afraid to stick out like a sore thumb and indulge into the fashion of the opposite sex!” -Janaia
