Jeans: Hot Topic | Double Monk Strap Shoes: Stacy Adams

It’s the second official day of winter and Christmas Break is finally here! Despite my original plan to catch up on a few hours of missed sleep, I decided to spend my first two mornings rummaging through my closet.

Why?

Number one, it was a little junky. Two, I wanted to find and donate some of my clothes to the Salvation Army.

After spending a hour searching, there were at least fifteen items that I haven’t worn since 2007. Luckily, there was one item in particular that I was able to still fit. Of course it was the navy turtleneck my mom purchased that I never wore in college. Yikes, who would wear a turtleneck sweater during the “Snap N Roll” era? Those were days of flared jeans, pop collars, and Air Force Ones. I would never be caught dead wearing a turtle neck sweater, until now.

I thought this turtle neck would look great with a sport coat and jeans. So, I went through my closet again and found a tweed jacket from the thrift store. This jacket was purchased over a year ago for $5. Since the sleeves were a little short, I took it to my favorite tailor and had the sleeves lengthened for $7.  Next, I threw on a pair of Hot Topic skinny jeans. Although these jeans may look a little tight, they are very comfortable in the crotch area. Sorry if that was a little graphic, but those are one of the many misconceptions about skinny jeans.

I decided to finish off this look with a pair of double monk strap dress shoes. The double monk strap shoe is perfect with a pair of denim jeans, which help dress up the entire outfit.

Have you ever found an old shirt, sweater, or pair of pants that you can still wear today? Tell us about your experiences below.

There’s nothing like kicking off the week with a little burst of sunshine, especially during one of the coldest months of the year. Luckily for us, the weather has been working in our favor. In the Northeast, the temperature has been moderately cool, ranging from 35 to 60 degrees throughout the week. As we are nearing the end of December, this “Good” won’t last forever. I predict that the temperature will drop another ten degrees.

Before we fully invest ourselves into the winter season, I wanted to appreciate the last days of fall by wearing less layers and throwing on my favorite color, yellow! During the fall and winter, I typically wear a lot of navy. However, this mild weather has given me a change of heart. Today, I decided to throw on my favorite sweatshirt from H&M. You can call me a little biased, but I love the color. It’s so rich and of course, yellow.

Rather than wearing a flannel shirt under my sweatshirt, I decided to wear it tied around my waist. You know how much I love channeling the 90s, especially my inner Dylan McKay (A character from Beverly Hills, 90210 you 90s babies!). For the rest of my outfit, I decided to squeeze into my favorite skinny jeans with a pair of suede desert boots.

In order to maintain structure within society, we must abide by a specific set rules at all times. If not followed, these rules can lead to severe consequences.

Within the world of fashion, there are a few rules set in place to help eliminate unflattering looks. Luckily for us, some of these rules are meant to be broken.  For those of us that love wearing brown and black together, you have broken one of the earliest rules of fashion. Needless to say, this rule should have been broken from the very beginning.

As shown above, I decided to put together a black and brown look for this week’s #MensStyleMondays post.

When pairing the two colors together, I always go with black pants and brown shoes. I wore my favorite black skinny jeans from River Island with my old pair of wingtip, oxford boots from Aston Grey. For the rest of my outfit, I went with a basic grey v-neck tee and a clunky cardigan, both from GAP. Just in case the temperature decided to drop, I tied an old denim shirt around my waist.

How would you pair black and brown together? Let us know in the comments section below.

One one of my personal goals this season was to break outside of my comfort zone by including other colors into my wardrobe. Since I’m such a naturally fun and bubbly person, you would think I would enjoy wearing colors that are truly representative of my personality. However, this is not always the case.

For anyone that is familiar with my background, I grew up in the Northern state where the temperature drops near the middle of September. As a result, my closet includes varying shades of navy, green, and grey. Now don’t get me wrong, I love all colors, but I often find myself drawn to these colors more so than others.

Recently, I decided to make a few minor adjustments to my wardrobe by adding other colors like red, burgundy, khaki, orange, yellow, and brown to the mix!

With all that being said, I decided to embrace the final days of autumn in this week’s #MensStyleMondays post. Scroll down for the full feature!

Jeans: River Island | Socks: H&M | Shoes: Steve Madden

For those of you wondering, this season is all about plaid and flannel shirts. In almost any major retail store, you will find a variety of flannel shirts either folded on a shelf or hanging from a rolling rack. I received my flannel shirt as an old Christmas Gift a few years back, and it was purchased from the Polo Outlet store. Although this shirt was designed Ralph Lauren, it’s not tailored to your body. If tucked in your pants or worn for long periods of time, the shirt gets a little loose on the sides. For fashion safety purposes, I wore this shirt under a tweed waist coat from Urban Outfitters, and a khaki jacket from GAP. This waist coat was purchased on sale way back in 2011, and I have loved it ever since. For the jacket, I picked it up during one of those end of the season GAP sales for $27. That’s not bad for a khaki jacket if you ask me!

I decided to dress down my outfit with a pair of skinny jeans, manufactured by River Island.

Continuing with this autumn themed look, I decided to accessorize my double monk-strap leather shoes with a pair of red socks. Now, I know what you are thinking, dress shoes and denim? Well, if you own the right pair of jeans and shoes, why not wear them together! That’s the great thing about personal style, you can bend the rules to suite your fashion needs.

See you next week folks!
