“Navy is the new black!” -Kris

For this week’s individual style feature, Kris is back with another suit from his collection. This time, we are talking about the navy suit! Described as one of the most important items in a man’s wardrobe, the navy suit can be tailored to fit your body. According to Kris, “The navy suit is self explanatory. The trick here is to buy a suit that fits just right or visit your local tailor to customize your suit to fit you perfectly. It’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it.”

For a slight contrast, Kris chose to pair his slim, fitted suit with a dark brown, double monk strap shoe. “As mentioned in a previous look, I would consider these shoes a two-in-one man necessity. The dapper man should ALWAYS own a dark brown dress shoe and a double monk strap.”

To finish off this look, Kris accessorized his suit with a paisley colored pocket square. Not only is the pocket square unique in color, it was handmade by Kris himself. “The pocket square that I created was hand sewn out of vintage fabrics.  I only made one of these squares as a sample which was a huge mistake! Everywhere that I wear this pink, paisley, silk pocket square, people offer to buy it right out of my blazer chest pocket! This gives the “wow” effect that any accessory should have, especially when it matches perfectly with your shirt.”

Remember, when adding accessories, don’t be afraid to add something with a little flare!

“This look was is my favorite. I love dressing up and adding a bit of edge to it.” -Carrera

For this post, we have another individual style feature with singer/fashion blogger, Carrera.

When your boss says the company dress code is “business sophisticated,” think Olivia Pope meets Michelle Obama. A colorful, knee high, form fitted dress is the perfect option, especially if you have another event to attend after work.

Our girl Carrera went with a lavender dress from ASOS, H&M leather jacket, and a pair of Christian Louboutin heels. Did we say Louboutin? Yes, we certainly did!

Continuing with her outfit, this look is perfect for a day at the office, morning church service, or a coffee date with friends. Carrera agrees, and had this to say, “This look is perfect because it’s versatile. It could be worn anywhere. You can wear it to church, work, out to dinner, wherever!”

Strictly Business: Thrifted

post_brandi2_091715_01post_brandi2_091715_02post_brandi2_091715_03post_brandi2_091715_04post_brandi2_091715_05Jacket: Thrifted | Blouse: Thrifted |
Pants: Zara | Heels: Forever21

With the holiday season right around the corner, your bank account, which has been steadily decreasing from all those bills, loan payments, and holiday gifts, is barely holding it together. As a result, you’re left with zero funds for shopping expenses until Janauary.

So, what’s a girl to do during this time of the year? Well, if you are a shopaholic like us, you have to spend your last bit of money on something. So, you might as well go thrifting.

For this post, we reached out to our local thrifting expert, Brandi. A master of consignment shops and bargain shopping, she knows how to find any hidden treasure.

Take for instance, her featured outfit, as shown above. Brandi found her jacket, blouse, and belt from the same thrift store. It’s rare that you can assemble a fully thrifted outfit, especially one that’s work appropriate as well. To break up her thrifted items, Brandi threw on a pair of slacks and heels. Her pants were purchased from Zara, and the suede heels from Forever21.

This outfit is simple business casual, with a colorful twist! You could wear this look in the office, or after work to a Happy Hour event with your girlfriends. It’s simply chic and versatile at the same time.

So, how do you feel about Brandi’s outfit? Feel free to share with us in the comments section below.

Strictly Business: The Wool Suit

Pocket Square: Ralph Lauren | Hat: Goorin Bros |

“When you wear a suit you should always strive to be the best dressed man in the room,” -Ini S. Ikpe

Suits are an ingrained part of American culture. From the frock, to the zoot suit,  the three piece and big suits have been in existence from the very beginning. As of lately though, the suit resurfaced in modern street wear and mainstream pop culture. If you don’t believe me, just turn on your local radio station. I’m sure you will hear the song, “Classic Man,” which pays homage to the everyday suit wearing men.

A discussion of the well dressed man leads us to this week’s individual style feature. Today, our friend Ini S. Ikpe decided to show us what a “Classic Man” looks like.

Other than walking with confidence, the suit wearing man should oblige by another rule: 1) Fit is everything. Remember, big suits are relics of the nineties, and a horror to look at. When purchasing a suit, it’s best to have a tailor on standby. Not only does a tailored suit illustrate a more polished look, it also helps highlight your accessory pieces. For example, Mr. Ikpe chose a pink Calvin Klein shirt, knit tie, Goorin Bros fedora, a Daniel Wellington watch, and a Ralph Lauren pocket square to accessorize his look.

Remember, if you don’t have a tailor, there are also slim fit suits available for purchase.

To finish it off this look, Ini went with a pair of double monk oxfords. Notice how the colors chosen contrast the suit. Remember when wearing a darker color suit, it’s always nice to choose colors that pop out from the suit color.
