How did I wear…an ugly sweater

In the last five years, the ugly sweater Christmas holiday party has become more popular than ever! I actually happen to attend at least three every year. So, it’s safe to say that my ugly sweater collection is pretty thorough.

Today, I decided to jump in the holiday spirit with this fun sweater. From a quick glance, this is a typical ugly sweater. As you take you closer look, Rudolph, along with an ethnic Santa Claus and Elf, are printed throughout the sweater.

For a pop of color, I threw on my fire engine red skinny jeans. A little snug, these pants are great to knock around in.

I hope everyone has a very safe holiday. Make sure you weren’t naughty for Santa!

How did I wear…a plaid poncho

I have a soft spot for any affordable poncho that can keep me warm, especially a plaid one. Not only is this accessory the perfect addition to my fall wardrobe, it can easily be styled as well.

Tip: Ponchos are very common to come by these days. Your best option is Forever21 or ASOS, if you are looking for an affordable one. Mine was about $30. Not bad, right?

With a very bold print of green, burgundy, gold, white, and navy, the rest of my outfit was very dressed down. I paired my poncho with a white button-up, my favorite distressed jeans, and a pair of suede tassel loafers. The simplicity from the button-up and jeans made the poncho stand out even more.

Tip: I typically style my poncho with primary colors like black, white, or navy. It’s the safest option, especially if your poncho has a loud print.

I normally like wearing ponchos to local events like fashion shows, happy hours, and even wine tastings. Of course, people love staring whenever I walk in wearing this over-sized “rug.” However, I do receive many compliments as well.

Tip: For footwear, you should consider wearing boots or loafers. Depending on how casual you want to go, you could even pull off a nice pair of sneakers with your poncho.

How did I wear…black with a pop of color?

As mentioned in a previous post, black has become a returning, fan favorite color this season.

The reason? To be honest, I’m not exactly sure. Perhaps, the other primary colors have run their course, or maybe everyone has been affected by this dreary weather. Whatever the case may be, it’s obvious that black is here to stay.

Today, I put together another “All Black Everything” look with a pop of color. This outfit consists of a leather jacket, hoodie, flannel shirt, distressed jeans, and chelsea boots.

Tip: The easiest way to add a pop of color is through minor details.  Articles of clothing like jackets, shirts, and even accessories are great ways to make your outfit stand out in the crowd.

The old school leather jacket and distressed jeans were paired together for a grunge look. Additionally, I used the hoodie to embrace the fall season with the layered trend.

Tip: When in doubt, mix shades of red. Not only does this color denote passion, it also serves to draw attention.

Channeling my inner 90’s persona, I tied a flannel shirt around my waist for a retro look. It also served to add a little pop of color to my outfit. In general, red looks great with black. So, a button-up with large geometric prints helped elevate this look even more.

Tip: Don’t be afraid to add other colors to the mix. Your blues, greens, and yellows are perfect substitutions for red.

How did I wear…a textured knit sweater?

Well, just read the story below.

Last month, I found up this amazing, textured-knit sweater from H&M. Priced at originally $35, I got this bad boy on sale for $10. Yes, $10! The powers that be have blessed me with a fun sweater for a cheap price. You can’t be that, right?

Tip: What I admire the most about this particular sweater is how it looks great with other dark colors. You should consider wearing your sweater with a dark wash denim or black skinny jeans.

Based on the images shown above, the sweater appears to be black. When in all actuality, it’s a dark navy color.

Needless to say, I thought it would look great with my favorite black skinny jeans from River Island.

Tip: If you’re looking for a knit sweater, check out stores like GAP, Old Navy, Urban Outfitters, Uniqlo, and PacSun. They have a great selection.

Beyond the sweater, the selling point for this entire look is the custom fedora. I actually received this hat as Birthday gift. As you already know, I fell in love with it right away. The bold colors add so much character!

Tip: Here’s the thing with sweaters, you have to be mindful with the way you hang them in your closet. I suggest not hanging them at all since you can easily stretch them out. Just in case you do, try folding your sweater in half,  place the hanger hook in the armpit, and fold the waist over the hanger.
