How Did I Wear…

How did I wear….double denim, again?!

The double denim trend is back this season with a vengeance! Ranging  from light to dark washes, all your favorite denim pieces can be worn separately or easily paired together. Just take your pick!

Tip: For this particular trend, matching and contrasting can be considered synonymous with denim. Matching two similar washes together give off that old school look, while wearing two different washes can bring you up to speed in this decade.

For this particular look, I purchased this button-down from a consignment store a few years back, and it was such a steal. I walked out with a $5 purchase in no time. I love this shirt so much, that it’s worn year round.

Tip: Consignment stores have all the denim! You can find denim from every decade. Even if it doesn’t fit, you can make it work. Remember, the 90’s has been back for a while.

Today, I styled my denim shirt with a pair of skinny jeans from H&M. These jeans were originally purchased for casual Fridays at work, until I distressed them myself.

Tip: When distressing denim jeans, try not to get scissor happy. Just focus on one area, and go from there.

Overall, the slightly contrasting denim pieces look great together, especially with the slip-on sneakers from ASOS. With a very bright exterior and comfortable design, these shoes are perfect for a warm afternoon.

First, what is the name of your brand?
The name of my brand is S.H.!.P the Collection .. S.H.!.P is an acronym for Stop the Hate and Ignorant People. Our aim is to push positive political and social messages through smooth garments.

Who are the creative geniuses behind your brand?
Just me for the most part, with the help from Macc Deez the Fly Malcolm X .

Let’s discuss the history of your brand. When and why were you created?
The autumn of 2008 was the year it all began. Four youngsters hailing from the suburbs of Piscataway, NJ decided to take the lead on something that would change the perspective of fashion. S.H.!.P, which is an acronym for “Stop the Hate and Ignorant People,” started out as a simple hobby. They adopted a lot of the same aspects from the sneaker and skate board culture, and applying it to their ways of life. They utilized Piscataway High Schools graphic design class to screen print on Hanes t-shirts at first just to seem “cool” and have something to call their own. After the death of one of the founders at the tender age of sixteen, SHIP the Collection faced a five year deficit before revamping the company in the summer of 2013.

What is the objective of your brand?
SHIP the Collection now is bigger than just a “clothing line.” In today’s time, some of the younger generations are mislead. Some only pay attention to hip-hop, sports, ignorance, and fashion. Our generation doesn’t have faces such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela, or John F. Kennedy to look up to. Therefore, our vision as a brand is to reach the generation on a relatable scale through fashion. Our goal is to push political and social messages through smooth garments. That way, people can wear something fly and represent something positive at the same time.

What does your brand offer to your consumers and customers?
S.H.!.P. offers our customers and consumers individuality. We strive for quality also. We want our supporters to feel happy and satisfied when they have our clothes on.

How are you able to distinguish your brand from others?
What makes S.H.!.P. the Collection distinguishable from other brands is that we have we have a message behind us. This is just not any message, but a very heavy one. We live in age of time where it is much needed. There are a lot of other brands out there, good ones and not so good. Yet, I don’t see any with a message like ours though.

What are your long term goals for your brand?
Our long term goals are in full effect as we speak. We are cooking up a new catalog called the “Don’t Believe the HYPE” collection for fall/winter 2017 followed by a fashion show. We also have a bunch of collaborations in the works as well, and getting into more stores. We plan to push the message out more by touching the people.

Where do you see your band in the next five years?
In five years, I want to see the brand expand nationally. I want to have a store. Shipthecollection is a lifestyle brand. So, we are not only a clothing line, but we push a positive message through music, events, and to everyone.

Tank: ASOS | Boots: G.H. Bass
Bag: Urban Outfitters

Polka dots in general, make a very bold statement. Not only is this print very fun to wear, but it gives off a very nostalgic presence as well.

I’ve found that I like polka dot shirts the most, especially button-downs. Today, I decided to wear my polka dot printed shirt with an old grey tank, cut-off denim shorts, and a pair of suede desert boots.

This particular button-down has been hanging in my closet for quite some time now. Yet, I never wear it out the house. Since the shirt is not exactly tailored to fit correctly, I can only wear it with casual looks. So, it’s loose fit serves as the perfect layering piece over a tank or tee.

Continuing with this outfit, the denim shorts sell the whole package. Now, these are not just any ordinary pair of shorts. They were once skinny jeans that I cut myself.

From the looks of it, I guess you can say that my little DIY project was very successful! These shorts look straight out of a retail store.

After 5: Camo Jacket

post_whitnie1_033016_01post_whitnie1_033016_02post_whitnie1_033016_03post_whitnie1_033016_04post_whitnie1_033016_05Jacket: Thrifted |
Dress: ASOS |
Heels: Liliana

“Don’t you hate going into restaurants or stores when the air conditioner is blowing cold air? That’s me! I’m always cold and constantly looking for ways to incorporate some sort of jacket or cover up to bring along during those warm months.” -Whitnie

Like most trends, styling a camo jacket can be a lot easier than it sounds. There are some that enjoy wearing their camo with neutral or monochromatic colors, while we have others that go overboard with bright colors and abstract prints. Whatever the case may be, there are so many options with camo in general.

For this post, we had an opportunity to link up with our new friend, Whitnie. Today, she stops by UnregisteredStyle to show of her latest camo friendly look.

Purchased straight from the thrift store, Whitnie’s camo jacket is the perfect cover up on a chilly afternoon. She states, “I love the versatility of this jacket because it’s such a functional, yet standout accessory. Even better, it was a thrift store find!”

Whitnie styled her jacket with a sleeveless, ribbed dress from ASOS. She had this say about her purchase, “Living in the bitter coldness that is Chicago, I like to take full advantage of this weather. So, I wear dresses as often as I can. Not only are dresses an easy foundation to build an outfit, but they’re also easier to pack and take up less room in your suitcase! Just put on your accent necklace or your bold earrings and you’re ready to go!”

We agree Whitnie! This dress is the perfect option if you are traveling. Very versatile and chic! As a finishing touch, she further styled her outfit with a pair of tan, open toed heels. Described as her go-to heel for the season, Whitnie has no problem stepping out in her chunky.

So, how do you feel about this outfit? Feel free to share with us in the comments section below.
