post_bryce1_112314_03For the last seven months, I have been mentally and physically preparing myself to complete the GORE-TEX® Philadelphia Marathon. Now, if you think running a half marathon is rough, try mentally preparing yourself for 26.2 miles! When I initially signed up for the race, I was scared to death. My biggest fear was hitting a performance wall, and not completing the marathon. So, I decided to develop a fitness schedule, which would help monitor my weekly progression. Typically, I run and workout about four times a week on a regular basis.

At the beginning of the summer, I increased my average weekly runs to twenty miles. Once I began training, it felt like the marathon was here no time.

On Sunday, November 23, I arrived to the Ben Franklin Parkway, ready to take on one of the most challenging events of my life. The race began promptly at 7:30am. Although it was chilly at first, the temperature begin to warm up within the first two hours. Needless to say, I had on two layers of clothing.

We ran through historic landmarks like Independence Hall, Benjamin Franklin’s Burial Place, the National Constitution Center and the Liberty Bell, through urban neighborhoods such as Old City, University City, South Philadelphia and Manayunk, and along the picturesque waterfronts of the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers.

After a grueling five hours of blood, sweat, tears, and two leg cramps, I finally crossed the finish line to my a glorious crowd, family, and friends. Right before I crossed the finish line, tears began to run down my face. Now, these were not tears of sadness and pain, but tears of joy. My adrenaline was still rushing and I was so proud of myself. It’s one thing to add personal goals to your bucket list, it’s another to finally scratch one off.

I just want to thank all my friends and family for supporting me through the ups and downs of this event! Love you guys!

For this week’s FEATURE FRIDAY post, we  wanted to acknowledge another stylish gentlemen within the online community, @thevintographer. For the second time, @thevintographer brings us another look from his tailored wardrobe.

As shown above, @thevintographer is suited and booted in his tailored suit. Honestly, you can never go wrong with a navy suit and loafer combo, especially when you are conducting business. Also, we love how @thevintographer likes to accessorize his suits with contrasting patterned ties and pocket squares. He definitely understands how to add subtle details throughout his an entire outfit.

After5: Menswear

Within the world of fashion, the societal expectations of women are still biased. In 2014, should a woman be expected to prance around in knee high skirts, blouses, and heels everyday? Of course not! A woman can dress any way she chooses, or can she?

Suppose you were walking and saw a woman wearing a tailored blazer, neck tie, or vest, what would you think? If you are a confident, fashion conscious individual, you wouldn’t think twice about her attire. If you saw this woman and felt threatened or insecure, your mind may be clout with negative opinions and assumptions based on her attire. You may stop to ask yourself, “Is this woman going through an identity crisis or is she trying to find herself?” How about this woman is both fashion forward and confident. As a human being, she has the right to dress any way she wants.

With all this being said, we decided to catch up with our girl, Seonne Baylor, for another individual style feature. This week, Seonne shoes off her latest look for the season below.

“I would define the word style as unique and distinct, because every individual has a different elegance to them. No one is the same down to genetics. Your DNA is unique in itself then so should your style and self being.” -Seonne

In the past, many of our female readers have inquired information about men’s fashion.

Well, if you don’t know where to begin, we suggest starting off with a solid accessory collection. No, we are not talking about hoop earings and bracelets, but rather pocket squares, suspenders, and of course bow ties. Now, if you are on a budget like most twenty something year olds, your best bet is Nordstrom Rack. For under $50, you may go home with a bag full of accessories.

For our girl Seonne, she has invested a lot time and money in this “Dapper” lifestyle. Take, for instance, her holiday inspired outfit. Seonne decided to wear a solid color button-down with a thrifted, olive patterned vest, chinos, tassel loafers, and custom bow tie from the SeonMichel collection.

“How does she wear something like this everyday?”

As mentioned in a previous paragraph, it takes a lot of skill and confidence to pull off this look. If you really think about it, Seonne’s style did not manifest over night. There were many trial and error periods until Seonne figured out what worked best for her.

Now, if you still want to get your feet wet,  wear your newly purchased bow tie, blazer, or vest to an upcoming event. For instance, Seonne initially planned on wearing this outfit to a holiday event. She states, “This outfit is perfect for any office holiday party. Also, the bow tie adds a nice holiday touch!”

We couldn’t agree more!

As we embark upon a new year, we still walk a thin line between masculinity and femininity.Typically, this style is only mainly acceptable within high fashion runways and magazines. However, many “Dapper” inspired fashionistas have stepped in the last couple years. We wouldn’t be surprised if Seonne was featured in a popular magazine one day.
